Dennise Jauregui

program manager

I grew up in Southern California playing competitive soccer and attended UC Santa Cruz where I graduated with a BA in Psychology. Attending UC Santa Cruz meant leaving family and friends to experience something completely new. Upon graduation I stayed in the area for job opportunities and have been living in the area since then.  I started working as a Housing Coordinator at Housing Choices and was the only Housing Coordinator for much of 2013.  When the organization began growing, I eventually became the Program Manager and now oversee the Housing Coordination Team.  Over the years, I have seen the organization grow and improve in so many areas.  Since working here, I have developed a strong sense of devotion for the nonprofit sector and am passionate for helping others in need.

I then studied at Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana, where I graduated with a B.A. in Communication and Spanish and a minor in Music. Following graduation, I volunteered with AmeriCorps City Year at Overfelt High School, which is what brought me to San Jose! As the Communications Coordinator for Housing Choices, I connect clients and staff to information on upcoming and recent events in the community pertaining to housing development. I help others advocate for themselves and I also advocate for our clients at community and city hall meetings in the counties we serve. I love working at Housing Choices because I get to combine my love for serving others, advocating, and communicating effectively. Cindy Baez

Housing First Case Manager

Hello! I was born and raised in East Side San Jose and I attended San Jose State University, where I got my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Health Science. While at SJSU, I participated in a school integration expedition to Oaxaca, Mexico, where we volunteered in a Health Fair for the small community of Arisola. It was there that I discovered my passion and realized I wanted to be in the public service field.  As a Housing First Case Manager at Housing Choices, I work primarily with our homeless clients by assisting them in finding a temporary shelter or place where they can reintegrate and develop their rental history while we waitlist them for an ideal residence.  Being part of an organization that makes a difference and gives a voice to a marginalized population has brought a new meaning to my life- so much so that I am planning to persue my Masters in Social Work to develop skills to better serve my clients. I love all things Disney, Sailor Moon, and in my spare time you can probably find me with my boyfriend at Game Kastle playing some type of board game, painting, or role playing as a magical gnome in DnD.

Vanessa Fierro

Housing First Case Manager

I am a California native raised in the busy city of San Jose and am always seeking different types of adventure. I pursued higher education at the University of California, Santa Cruz, graduating with B.A.s as a triple major in Legal Studies, Feminist Studies, and Forensics with a minor in Politics. During my time at UC Santa Cruz, I interned at the San Francisco District Attorney's office as a legal aid and then ventured off to Washington, DC to be a congressional intern. Having first-hand experience drafting different types of legislation on Capital Hill was thrilling and stressful- hence a piece of me remains in the DC area. In the near future, I plan to begin my legal career as law school is looking more and more appealing to me. As the Housing First Case Manager here at Housing Choices, I enjoy being able to provide different resources and information that can assist our clients in bettering their quality of life. In my spare time I enjoy reading by the pool or ocean side as well as attending concerts and rodeos.

I was born and raised in San Jose in a bilingual household where I learned to be fluent in Vietnamese and English.  After high school, I attended San Jose State University and earned my Bachelor of Arts  in Communications with a minor in Business Administration.  My dream is to use my Communications degree as well as my bilingual skills to help people in challenging situations.  I love that at Housing Choices everyday is different and full of surprises.  The United States is a country composed of immigrants and for many people English is not their first language.  I am grateful for working with clients where this is the case.

Monica Franco

Housing Coordinator

I grew up  in the Bay Area, but I have spend significant time in Jalisco, Mexico, which I also call  my hometown. I am grateful to have been raised in Mexico and the Bay Area because  I acquired Spanish alongside English, which helps me to serve the Spanish speaking community in the area. The Bay Area has provided me with many things- one being an education and another a close knit community. Having an education has given me the tools to give back to my community, and is why I earned a Bachelor's degree in Linguistics with a minor in Mexican American Studies. These studies help me tremendously in the work I do here at Housing Choices. I love working for Housing Choices because helping out the community is my calling and I have a need to advocate for those that need their voice heard and help fighting for their rights. Seeing my clients housed is also why I do the work here at this agency.  An interesting fact about me is that I love to dance; I dance all types of music, but my favorite is dancing to Mariachi music. I spend my spare time dancing to  Mexican folk dance, representing my culture in an artistic form. Later on I plan on developing my Reiki skills to become a Reiki healer, to help the community even more with my talents!

Erika Ameca

Hello my name is Erika Ameca, I am 25 years old and I was born in Mexico City but raised here in the Bay Area. I have my A.A. from De Anza College in Social and Behavioral Sciences and I am currently attending San Jose State University pursuing my bachelor's degree in Sociology. I love working at Housing Choices for so many reasons, such as the clients we work with who have taught me so much in this short time I have worked with them as a Resident Coordinator. I love my Housing Choices Team and everything that we do in order to support people with developmental disabilities. I think something interesting about me is that I look younger than my actual age and when I tell people I have a 4-year-old daughter they are shocked. I love being a mother and I also love my job!

Jackie Sarellano

Resident Coordinator

I am originally from San Jose and attended San Jose State University, where I obtained my BA in Psychology. I am now in the process of getting my Master’s of Social Work. I like working for Housing Choices because I love helping and advocating for clients in order to empower them, while at the same time meeting their needs. Something interesting about me is I love to dye my hair and always try to find different things to do with it. Now that I have to be professional you will no longer see me with different hair colors and styles, but I'm sure one day I will have some kind of hair salon for people who are willing to let me experiment with their hair. I would say I have had my hair dyed every color of the rainbow. I also love Pandas.
