The product of our local housing advocacy is a partnership with a housing developer to create new affordable housing (a “Partner Property”) with a percentage of rental units set-aside at affordable rents for people with developmental and other disabilities. We work collaboratively with the developer to plan a design and financing structure at the Partner Property that will promote the successful inclusion of people with developmental and other disabilities. We participate actively in marketing the Partner Property to the entire community of people with developmental and other disabilities--not just those who have already asked for our services.
Housing Choices currently supports more than 250 residents living in 18 different Partner Properties. At these Partner Properties, Housing Choices maintains a long-term role in protecting the set-aside commitment for 30, 40, or 55 years. We also develop, maintain, and update a dedicated waiting list for units set-aside for people with developmental and other disabilities, and help people with developmental and other disabilities move into and retain their housing at the Partner Property.
