Mission and History
Housing Choices enhances the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by assisting them to find and retain quality, affordable housing options.
Housing Choices was founded in 1997 by parents of developmentally disabled children in order to fill in a key housing gap in their children’s lives. Finding affordable housing in Santa Clara, Monterey, and Santa Cruz counties is difficult for anybody, and the need for assistance has only grown since our inception. Whether through a unit in an apartment complex or one of the three cooperatively run houses we manage, Housing Choices helps each client secure the foundation of independent living: their home.
Along the way, Housing Choices has developed a program that specifically focuses on our client demographic that is also homeless. We provide emergency counsel and help to these clients to procure both short- and long-term housing and achieve stability.
Lastly, in addition to assisting clients to find housing, Housing Choices has also developed close relationships with fourteen properties. Dubbed Partner Properties, at these locations, we administer the housing wait list for select units and help current residents successfully maintain their units and relationships with property management.
